the winner takes it all

when i was in aspen this summer, i had the opportunity to interact with dr. murray gell-mann, a nobel prize winner. he's a friend of the family i worked for, and we had him over for dinner a couple of times.

on this particular occasion, i had to pick him up on my way out of town and so i called prior to my arrival to make sure he knew i was coming. i simply said, 'hi murray! this is rachel, i met you the other night at dinner,  i'm coming to get you!'...to which he said, 'great, i would love to be gotten!'

the simplicity of him - he is such a brilliant and talented man - but his commentary on language is fascinating. after that, i kept thinking about the way i spoke and the language i used.

which also caused me to reflect on the language we use every single day. anyway, i don't know if at this point i have a point, but i wanted to share his humor, and i also wanted to be thankful for our words and our voices. they are such an important of our communication. i love that each individual word can express so much and that if you are choosy, you can say something even more meaningful than you ever meant...
